Our landscape project began with our vague concept and vision for the renewal and transformation of the front area of our home. Our paths had become uneven and broken, and the exposed aggregate had become too deep and unpleasant to walk on. Our gardens were becoming tired, and needed a redesign, rather than a cosmetic, ad hoc set of improvements. Realising this, we wanted to restart from a blank canvas, and identify our design brief as a basis for consultation, reflection and an enhanced design. We did some investigations and selected Grotec Landscape Solutions to provide their expertise and to assist us with this project.
Key to the success of our amazing courtyard transformation was the initial design stage, carried out with Sue and Jarred. We understood the importance of this phase, and consulted extensively. This included identifying key aspects of our design brief – having an improved sense of entry and arrival to our home, having a coastal/beach house feel consistent with our interior design, being a place where we could relax, and having a sub-tropical planting plan where we could interact with and relax in our garden. This design process considered the functionality (for use by family, including our grandchildren having space to play), aesthetics (colour palette, mood board), and how this would integrate architecturally with our home, including removal of the existing driveway and replacement of this with a modern driveway to integrate with the new front entry and courtyard.
An important strategy within this design process was being referred to Anthony (Apunga Landscapes) and to Charlie (MyRenovator). They provided additional, helpful insights to the design, including hardscaping (retaining walls, garden soil, grass, pebbles, mulch, tiled paths, and garden lighting) and building (pergola, screen, and entry) construction ideas. Sue and Jarred developed several design drafts, shaped and responding to various planning discussion and reflections to produce a design which included key details, including planting theme and placement of each plant, and soil enhancement, and later we were provided with a maintenance plan.
We have been thrilled and excited at every stage of this process, and, in particular, we have been impressed with the quality, their meticulous care, and the communication of all of the tradespeople who worked so cohesively and collaboratively to create an amazingly transformed space for us to now enjoy.
Each stage has been absolutely exciting, from the excavation of our existing gardens and paths through to the planting and garden lights being switched on for the first evening. This final stage showed that Grotec had ticked all of the individual boxes to create an integrated overall amazing garden. It is now a place where there are gorgeous plants, it is visually very attractive to us, and our enjoyment can grow, as the garden grows. To assist here, we were pleasantly impressed with the followup provided by Sue in the provision of the exceptional Seasonal Garden Schedule which provides guidance throughout future seasons. Sue exudes a passion for plants and conveyed her wisdom for creating the optimal soil conditions for enabling the continuing well-being of our garden.
