Sustainable Family Acreage and Playground

Our clients were looking for a landscape designer to assist with the planning for a complete refurbishment of their 8 acre property at Bonogin.

The property had been neglected and prior to purchase stabled horses and offered equestrian training. It was however the the perfect property for these visionary clients to create an off-the-grid, fully sustainable family playground which included extensive gardens, a fruit tree orchid, edible gardens large enough to feed three families, area’s to contain chickens, horses & quail. Expansive outdoor entertaining areas including a massive gazebo alongside a dream sized, crystal clear, natural swimming pool with beach, waterfalls and wetlands to clean and purify the water. A new internal road and 2 bridges were installed on the property to allow full access to all areas and across the creek/gully area.

First Priority was to survey the land and see what we had to work with. Two large old dams were needing attention and the decision was made to convert one of the dams into a swimming hole and the other into an irrigation dam. The location and shape of the swimming hole closest to the residence became the focal point and so curves were introduced into the land and retaining of the banks to harmonize and blend in with the family home situated at the top of a small hill.

What do you think?

Our clients wanted to create an off-the-grid, fully sustainable family playground.

Our Designs included ornamental and native gardens around the property, a fruit tree orchid, Bird-Proof, wicking edible gardens large enough to feed three families and area’s to contain chickens, horses & quail. Existing outdoor entertaining areas have been expanded and refurbished and childrens play areas incorporated.

A massive gazebo has been designed to sit alongside the crystal clear, natural swimming hole (formerly the dam) with sandy beach, waterfalls and wetlands to clean and purify the water. A new internal road and 2 bridges were installed on the property to allow full access to all areas and across the creek/gully area.
